Came down this morning to find Sid curled up in the armchair. With some trepidation (he's used to being outside) we left a litter box covered in earth, in the hope that he'd realise what it was for, and indeed, he did. One rather major hurdle over, in that case.

I have also been ferociously attacked, my arm slain, and then enthusiastically purred over.

We had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever when I was growing up. Roughly Lab sized, but more barrel chested. She was about 90 pounds grown up. Penny (they're copper colored dogs - we were kids ;-) was one of three pets when she was a pup. The other two were cats.

Penny thought she was a cat.

A couple of years go by, my dad retires from the Navy, we come home to Houston. The cats go to local friends because 'cats don't travel well'. Anyway, we get here, and in the fullness of time take in a cat someone else left when they moved (without finding him a home). Penny was ecstatic to have 'another' cat around. Becky (those folks were idiots, after all) was not amused.

They finally worked it out and could be found, from time to time, curled up in the garage together when it got cold. Becky would never admit to it, though, and he staunchly refused to acknowledge the occasional dog spit on his coat.
