Came down this morning to find Sid curled up in the armchair. With some trepidation (he's used to being outside) we left a litter box covered in earth, in the hope that he'd realise what it was for, and indeed, he did. One rather major hurdle over, in that case.

I have also been ferociously attacked, my arm slain, and then enthusiastically purred over.

Not quite! I think the dogs are a bit big. Tara came up this morning and we saw Hissing Sid: he spat like a firecracker and swore. Then he settled down - he's wary, but they will get used to one another. Tara just wants to be friends but it's like having a truck want to be friends with you.

I sympathise with Sid! I know exactly what a friendly Rottweiler is like and I'm rather bigger than a cat.

It's so good to hear that he's settling in nicely in his new country home.

We had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever when I was growing up. Roughly Lab sized, but more barrel chested. She was about 90 pounds grown up. Penny (they're copper colored dogs - we were kids ;-) was one of three pets when she was a pup. The other two were cats.

Penny thought she was a cat.

A couple of years go by, my dad retires from the Navy, we come home to Houston. The cats go to local friends because 'cats don't travel well'. Anyway, we get here, and in the fullness of time take in a cat someone else left when they moved (without finding him a home). Penny was ecstatic to have 'another' cat around. Becky (those folks were idiots, after all) was not amused.

They finally worked it out and could be found, from time to time, curled up in the garage together when it got cold. Becky would never admit to it, though, and he staunchly refused to acknowledge the occasional dog spit on his coat.

Sounds like he's thoroughly at home already.

He's plainly made himself at home, and will make himself even more so, I fancy. He's doing extremely well with the dogs considering he must have been chased often enough back in London.

It reminds me of the ginger cat we has when I was a teenager, who, when introduced to a ten-stone Collie/GSD cross, put his back up and hissed. Then thought about it.

An hour later he was suckling at the hard skin on the dog's elbows, and the dog was looking at my Mum with a "Help!" expression. They grew to adore each other.

My first cat was a mere runty scrap of a calico. In the country, I saw her levitate in order to claw the face of an innocent collie who was just standing around, not doin' nuthin'.
