Here, of course, it is a normal boring Tuesday. And also a Roman festival of Venus, apparently.

Waddayamean it's a normal boring Tuesday? Anyone paying any attention whatsoever knows that it is in fact my half-birthday. That's what America actually celebrates, they're just slightly too embarrassed to admit it. All those fireworks? They're mine, I tell you, mine to me...

Y'all have Fourth of July, and are perfectly welcome to celebrate it. What you don't have is Independence Day. But there's no reason to not raise a glass to the Fourth if you're inclined.

For me, today is singular even as Independence Day usually goes, because Dale is home. This almost never happens, and if it's an indication of how things are going to go with Ms. Wilson's organization I'm all applause. Dale and Travis are going to char some meat in the back yard later on, though for me most of the day is going to be occupied with reconciling bank account statements and playing The Sims 2. No fireworks for us, because nobody has had much enthusiasm for it since we lost Pyro Alan five years ago.

I like to think of it as Interdependence Day but that's just me. Went to see Al Gore's film on global warming this afternoon (a different kind of patriotic duty) and found that it wasn't as shocking as I'd anticipated (hoped?).

It was plenty bad even at that.

Just finished a post on my own LJ site regarding a little research I've done on electric-assist bicycles to reduce my commuting costs, reduce my waistline and do my bit to keep the planet a bit cooler. Things seem to be looking up in that department other than the bike company Giant is getting out of their highest quality line of electric bikes.

The new documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" will hopefully be another boost for electric vehicles be they bike, scooters or cars; hybrids, 100% electric or the currently politically hot plug-ins.

Thank you. I didn't do much, but I was quietly pleased to be home. I do like this holiday. Reminds me of a kid and being bundled up in a snowsuit (sometimes) to watch fireworks on the golf course. I like parades, anyhow, and I like the idea of scared cats jumping into people's arms.

One summer up at Trinity (Oxon.), they flew the flag for us, which was very kind, but not necessary. We would much have preferred a second ice cube tray.
