I love Observer Food Monthly days!
Some of the Fat Nige (now Slim Nige) recipes look good - especially the soused mackerel one.
Am alone in thinking that John Briffa comes across as a killjoy pompous arse? Oy! Briffa! Eat some pies (1), mate!



(1) A dinner guest not unrelated to me informed me last night that as far as he was concerned, pie was one of the major food groups and could, what's more, be taken as one of the recommended 6 daily portions of vegetables. Most worying that he studied Chemistry & food science at uni...

I was actually going to try that - and the prawn cakes one looked good, too.

There's nowt wrong with pie. Aren't the other food groups supposed to be chocolate, single malt and cheese?

Can now report back that this has been trialled in the Cleopand kitchen (although we couldn't get hold of juniper berries in this grim outpost of Britannia). Very nice. We served it with a cracking taboulleh with tamari in it and some steamed savoy cabbage. Screw that, Briffa!
