It started pouring with rain yesterday morning and is still raining. I don't do heat and it has been most unBritish these last few days, so I'm happy. Later this afternoon, we are off up to Gloucester, then Tewkesbury, in order to visit my parents and meet up with one of our athame suppliers who is doing the Battle of Tewkesbury re-enactment this weekend. He's going to be knee deep in water if this keeps up, poor man: Tewkesbury is notorious for flooding.

From there, we're going to hit the road for Glasgow tomorrow. We're doing Witchfest Scotland (a pagan convention, basically) on Saturday.

The last time I was in Glasgow--Intersection '95--they were in the midst of a heat wave. Daytime highs in the mid-80sF, with occasional rain. I felt like I was in Florida.

Most of the shops were not air conditioned at the time--don't know if that's changed. Walked into a non-A/C woolens shop, and felt itchy after a few minutes.

By the end of the week, the wave had passed and temps had dropped to more seasonal mid 60s. Felt much better.

It's rare to have A/C in this country because the climate is generally so lousy (I like it, but that's me!). Last time we went up, Glasgow was arctic and my ex boss decided to move out of Edinburgh when he estimated that there was a single day, in August, during which he did not have to wear a sweater...

Last time I visited Edinburgh (last August) it was like that for most of our stay. My wife was very confused at all the locals going around in t-shirts, while we wore jackets.

I've been away from the UK much too long to ever get used to its weather again. Conversely (due to living in Hong Kong so long), whenever it gets a bit humid in New York, people inevitably scream about how intolerable it is outside. Then I step outside and go "Hmm.. quite nice, this."

Does your supplier make athames by hand? I'd love to see a sample, if he does. Do you have pictures?
