Just the thing for a sunny Saturday morning.

http://www.darksites.com/evilplan.php

Congratulations on being the creator of a new
Evil Plan (tm)!

Your objective is simple: World Domination.

Your motive is a little bit more complex: Love (Yes, it works)

Stage One

To begin your plan, you must first seduce a chosen one. This will cause the world to slaughter a sacred calf to appease the gods, unsettled by your arrival. Who is this nightmare beyond comprehension? Where did they come from? And why do they look so good wearing the skin of another human?

Stage Two

Next, you must seize control of the White House. This will all be done from a obsidian citadel, a mysterious place of unrivaled dark glory. Upon seeing this, the world will scream, as countless hordes of winged monkeys hasten to do your every bidding.

Stage Three

Finally, you must unleash your great supernatural forces, bringing about rivers that run red with blood. Your name shall become synonymous with fear, and no man will ever again dare cross you. Everyone will bow before your cunning intelligence, and the world will have no choice but to erect a gigantic statue of you.

BSFA event

Liz C and I went up to the BSFA event yesterday in the afternoon, just in time for [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s highly entertaining talk, although she did not recite lewd limericks as promised, nor did she play the spoons. We were most disappointed. She also spat on the floor quite a bit, especially when the term 'literary' was mentioned. ;-)

We then stayed for a discussion on the BSFA's new Order of Merit, which is basically a new award designed to honour British SF writers, past, present and I guess future. And thank you for putting me on the 'best newcomers' ballot.

Lots of books for sale, including Karen's, mine, and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s, which was gratifying to see.

Then we traipsed around looking for a pub which was actually (a) open (and I should like to say how underwhelmed I am by the city of London's (as in the financial district) attitude toward opening hours) and (b) not smoky. I seem to have pickled my lungs by living with a smoker for years, but a lot of people object to it, and for good reasons.

We ended up in a nice dark pub in the curiously named Lamb's Conduit Street, where I had an interesting and informative chat to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] about Andrea Dworkin and other related matters. About 6.30 a bunch of us, including [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] (and thank you, BTW!) went to dinner in a pleasant Italian place and there we remained, which was good because I finally got a chance to catch up with Ian McDonald. I read Ian's DESOLATION ROAD and ARES EXPRESS a while ago and liked them, and am looking forward to RIVER OF GODS. Ian and I have both spent time doing research in India for various books and we swopped stories and notes.

Mrs McD was also extremely funny on the subject of northern Ireland (which is where they live) and on the Revd Paisley (I think IM has put him in a book in some form, because he talked about suddenly realising he was sitting next to Paisley on a plane, always a treat, I'm sure, and thinking "I've had you in a straight jacket, in a lunatic asylum." If only.

So a good night was had by all, especially when we got onto the restuarant's excellent grappa, which had a compelling odour of old sock. Two glasses got broken, not by me, but I did manage to cut my finger open. Dr Liz C produced band aid, however, so I have not yet bled to death.

Today, I'll be heading west to see T and thence to my aunt's funeral, so the LJ is likely to go quiet for a few days.
