Good to note from the news coverage of the Hitchens/Galloway debate in NYC last night that 18th century debating styles have not yet succumbed to the bland ideoms of spin doctory. I don't happen to agree with either Hitchens or Gorgeous George, but it's hard to dislike anyone who refers to their opponent as a "drink-soaked former Trotskyist popinjay." Handbags at dawn, gentlemen, please.

Meanwhile in British politics, Clarke remarked on the news this evening that he likes Gordon Brown personally, but that the politician in question is an 'obsessive control freak." As previously mentioned, my former boss used to share a flat with Gordon and Clarke's comments are not only refreshingly ad hominem, but apparently quite true. Heh.

While we're on the subject of the media, please can the Guardian stop banging on about its Berliner format? WE DON'T CARE! I read it online, anyway.
