Sparked by a comment on E Bear's blog. Most of our customers are Wiccan, Druidic, Norse or whatever brand of pagan one chooses to name. A very small percentage of our regular customers are Satanists (about the same percentage of customers who are practising Christians). They are polite, patient, tolerant and modest. I don't really care what they do in their spare time (although I suspect it involves reading a lot of Nietzsche).

So some of my favourite customers are devil worshippers. My least favourite, without exception, are brides.

Hmmm.

Pray, elucidate.

Women who are getting married and want wedding dresses (we sell a lot of Medieval clothes), and who subsequently (95%!) behave like the Bride in KILL BILL, only with less justification.

I don't know what it is about women who are getting married, but at some point, perfectly reasonable people are kidnapped and replaced by psychotic simulacra.

My horror when I realized that what I was watching was going to be A Satanism Episode was only rivalled by my joy upon the realization that The Satanist was in fact the Only Sane Person In The Entire Town.

Most of the Satanists I've known have been pretty okay people, if, yanno, over-prone to eye make up.

Likewise....I suppose they're trying to get their religion a good name.

Indeed, myself and my housemates were discussing this last week (we live in Hove, near Brighton, hence have almost as much diversity in these things as Glastonbury, I expect). Apparently the reason everyone thinks of wolves the way they do (eating babies! Argh! etc.) is because the medieval church encouraged the spreading of rumours regarding them, and their involvement in stories, simply because so many people worshipped them before, and they wanted them to become a symbol of evil.

Also, "(although I suspect it involves reading a lot of Nietzsche)" - touche!

Indeed it does. I lived in Kemp Town for nearly 20 years!

I have no interest in the actual practices of Satanism - too early 1970s Dennis Wheatley for me, although maybe I am unfair and they have come on since then.

Have you ever seen the film The Occult Experience? The Satanists were probably the least scary people in it. (The film also features Janet Farrar being the ultimate Witch Queen)

I haven't seen that - will have to track it down. Janet is a friend of ours...always weird seeing people you know on film!

I didn't meet her until after I'd seen it, so in my case it was weird meeting someone I'd seen on film. *g*

Janet's workshops at Starwood festival were my favorites, especially the stories she told before they began. She's a born storyteller. :)

She's very good, isn't she? She's also excellent at running workshops.

It was nice to have some actual Wiccan workshops at a nominally Pagan festival like Starwood, especially from someone in the same trad :)

The technical term is Bridezilla.

Bridezillas are not even worth dealing with. Simply get out of the way and pray they meet a swift end.

I think we might have a few atheists- and believe me, the way my deities have treated me recently, I'm well on the way....
