Half a shawl

On Sunday, my mother gave me half a shawl. It dates from the 1840s and it's a cotton paisley affair, quite large and rather ornate, with a small silk fringe.
THe other half was taken out to New Zealand when a section of my mum's family emigrated during the 19th century: they cut the shawl in half as a memento for each branch of the family. Now, I'm hoping that some Kiwi person will turn up with the other bit, like those Medieval romances in which someone cuts a ring in two.
