The name game
Dec. 7th, 2006 10:34 amThere's been mention on LJ lately about changing LJ names to one's real name. I prefer this approach and initially tried to do this, but there are already 2 LJs called 'Liz Williams' out there and so I was obliged to go with the Mevennen name, as I didn't think anyone would have used it (AFAIK, they haven't). Mevennen is a character in GHOST SISTER, my first novel (she is the Ghost Sister, in fact). It isn't a nickname of mine, and no one calls me by that: everyone calls me 'Liz.'
I've never been one for nicknames, or magical names. Glastonbury is one of those places where it's rare to find someone with their original name (the number of Morgaines in town is...probably indicative). I've no particular objection to it, although I sometimes feel that people are trying to escape their original personality and I quite like mine, so....!
Obviously, on LJ, it makes a lot of sense for some people to choose another handle, however, for work or personal reasons.
