I have to head off for an editorial lunch in a while, but at the moment am taking a break from a short story - I realised last week, via a prompt from Marty, that the special edition of DEMON needs added value, and this is going to be in the form of a short story in the book. Unfortunately, I hadn't written one, but then a story came along, fully formed. It's a joy to write. I wish they were all like this, but they're not. I still haven't seen BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. I just don't fancy it, somehow, but I'm not all that keen on love stories whatever the components might be.

We came, we saw, we went to Borders....
Feb. 13th, 2006 10:30 pmA highly entertaining editorial lunch was followed by the bookshop. Many thanks to
fastfwd for interviewing me at tonight's Borders gig. A solo effort, due to my co-author being suddenly in Kenya, but a good audience - and Pat, bring your friend from Carnival Diablo on Thursday if possible! I can't promise we'll be as rock and roll as the Sex Garden but hey, you never know till you try.
We spent a limited and sober amount of time in the Ben Crouch afterwards, discussing SNAKE AGENT. Someone asked me if I feel a need to ground the magic in it: the answer is no. And the reason for that is that it's based so much on Hong Kong, where - for instance - you have a whopping big hotel with an enormous hole in it, so that the dragon in the hill behind the hotel can see the sea. Well d'uh! Naturally.
Then I came back to my hostess' place and the news over the phone that we might be getting another one of these.
