Year's Best Fantasy

I've just had the welcome news that a Realms of Fantasy short story of mine, MORTEGARDE, will be published in the Year's Best Fantasy collection via David Hartwell. Another short story has been taken for the companion SF volume. I'm in good company, too, judging from what I've seen of the TOC.

The cute things kids say....

We went out to dinner last night with some friends, who are actually quite normal people, and the conversation turned to the 8-year old relative of one of them:

Proud Aunty: so what do you want to be when you grow up, little Jeffrey*?

Jeffrey: I want to look inside people's heads!

PA: you mean you want to be a brain surgeon.

J: not exactly. [long contemplative pause]. You can do it yourself. With a drill bit.

*Names have been changed. However, watch this space if LJ is still going in about 12 years' time.
