Short fiction and the purple ray
Oct. 18th, 2006 12:50 pmWorking on another couple of short stories, which I'm planning to send out into the aether this week. I have an anthology re-write to finish, and a new anthology to plan (more on this if it comes to anything).
I started reading Phil Rickman's THE CHALICE, which is a supernatural thriller about an anti-Grail (kind of a dark matter grail, I suppose) in Glastonbury. All his characters are horribly familiar, but it was written before I came permanently to town so at least none of them are me.
I did think he was being ever so slightly cruel about the New Age scene here, but then someone came into the shop yesterday and informed me that he'd had a text - from God, who knows? - informing him that some manner of higher power was emitting a purple ray earthwards for 17 hours yesterday, and that anything we thought, would be amplified.
This was one of our saner customers, BTW.
Well, who the hell knows? Maybe it's true.
And people wonder where I get my ideas...etc etc.

This is obviously one of those days. Clearly the effects of the purple ray are still with us.
Aware of someone in my peripheral vision 5 minutes ago, I looked up and there was a beaming gentleman in a turban, who informed me that I am basically fortunate, but think too much, and need to trust more in my emotions.
All riiiiight....
Turns out he is a peripatetic Sikh astrologer. Alas, we have no need of one right now, but I'm impressed with the accuracy of his first impressions.

Someone from a TV show just called me up (no idea why - Witchcraft Ltd is not the first place you'd think of when producing a television show about British food, but whatever) and has emailed me with the following, cut to spare the non-foodie, and alas non-UK based, sections of the f-list.
