Solstice/Christmas/Yuletide meme

I can't remember who this is from. I did it offline and because it was a bit premature (actually, it still is) I kept it and then forgot. So here it is, as I am taking a break from re-decorating the bedroom.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? The latter.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? I hate to tell you this, but Santa is probably a Siberian shaman on mushrooms. Oh. It's metaphorical. They're wrapped, put in cupboards, frequently lost and rediscovered in mid-July.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White, although my glowing Xmas tree which lights up is despised by T. Tough.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Yes, and holly and ivy and fir. Duh! We're Druids.

5. When do you put your decorations up? About the second week of December. They stay up till Twelfth Night.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? We do a trad turkey dinner, due to relatives who grow turkeys. But my actual preference is for duck (usually a New Year's thing).

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: I liked the whole thing, but especially going into the living room late at night and seeing the tree, silent and shining.

The mockers were slightly put on this because my partner died on Christmas Eve, and these early memories are overlaid by ones of staring at a tree in a hospital ward, in the dead of night. But overlaid, not replaced.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was never led to believe that he actually was an old bloke with a beard.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Sometimes.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Family decorations and some I bought last year for the Xmas tree here. Some of the family stuff dates back to the thirties - long glass stems with lilies of the valley.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? I like snow. For a short time.

12. Can you ice skate? No, not into it.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Mainly jewellery, from family and loved ones. And books.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? It has a lot of spiritual resonance, apart from the whole family thing.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Pudding.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Carols in Gloucester Cathedral. We didn't do it last year, on account of being a little too far away/too lazy to face the M5, and might not this year either. But carols somewhere. Also the Druidic Winter Assembly.

17. What tops your tree? A star.

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? Both, quite frankly.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song(s)? Medieval carols.

20. Candy Canes! yuck or yummy? I'm not a fan.

21. Fave Christmas Movie? It is not Xmas without the entire family spacing out in front of a Bond movie they've seen seventeen times already.

More important, however, is my Christmas Day book! Preferably something really good that I haven't read before. A tricky choice.
